Additional Material
This world is designed for a grade 3 class's first lesson in MinecraftEdu. Students will get authentic experience with the game controls, work together, and practice math fluency in a challenging, competitive activity.
To begin, make teams by teleporting students to the giant blue and red circle off in the distance (Look for the floating border blocks.). You can allow students to choose their own teams or freeze and teleport them how you see fit.
Once teams are assigned, teleport students back to the spawn and explain the game. Students will have the class period to find as many number and symbol blocks as they can. The goal is to create number sentences on the build allow blocks for the students' side. Teams will likely need to share the blocks they find to make use of them all.
A floating station has been provided for the teacher to easily reset the game. Stand directly on the teleport block, and enter the given commands to start the activity over. You must have fesnumb_52.schematic in your server/schematics directory to use this feature. This area was inspired by Shane Asselstine's factor activity.
Version 1.1 eliminates the lag caused by Edu Teleport Blocks and adds a team sorting area that students can access on their own. A few border blocks need to be removed by the teacher after teams are decided.
CCSS.Math.Content.3.OA.D.9 Identify arithmetic patterns (including patterns in the addition table or multiplication table), and explain them using properties of operations.
